The full picture
A bottle can say turmeric root on the front and standardized to 95% curcuminoids on the back. That second phrase is doing more work than most shoppers realize. It does not mean the capsule is 95% turmeric. It means the extract has been made, blended, or tested so that a chosen group of turmeric compounds, called curcuminoids, reaches the stated percentage.
The number is about a chosen chemical, not the whole plant
The surprise is that botanical standardization often measures a marker compound, not necessarily the only compound that matters. A marker compound is a chemical that can be reliably measured in the lab. Sometimes it is strongly tied to the intended effect.
